を銀座店でご購入いただいたシカゴからお越しのMeg Simonton様です。今回は京都、金沢、直島と、日本のアートや伝統文化が息づく地を巡る旅の途中に、当店へお立ち寄りくださいました。

大変な眼鏡好きでいらっしゃるSimonton様。店内をくまなくご覧いただき、最後までじっくりと悩み抜かれた末にお選びいただいたのが、香港発・日本製フレームのUNSUIKYO（ウンスイキョウ）でした。

モデル名の通り、日本の白谷雲水峡の自然美にインスピレーションを得たこのブランド。今回の一本は、天然の石（Nepheline Syenite）と木材（Northern Red Oak）を贅沢に使用した【M.ETERNAL_BZ】です。石の持つひんやりとした重厚感と、木の温もりが同居する独特な質感。これらがSimonton様の落ち着いた雰囲気に驚くほどマッチしていました。クリップオンサングラスが付属しているので、陽射しの強い旅先でも、ファッショナブルに目を守ってくれる実用性の高さも決め手となりました。

実は今回、決定に至るまでには素晴らしい「ライバル」たちがいました。最後まで候補に残っていた、天然バッファローホーンを用いたAbsolute Vintageのラウンドフレームや、最初に手にとっていただいたウェールズ発のFfin Eyewearの「MOD」。特にFfin Eyewearは、60年代の英国モッズカルチャーを背景に持つ一本で、Simonton様のスタイルにとってもお似合いでした。何を選ばれても正解、というハイレベルな悩みの中で、最終的にUNSUIKYOの持つ「自然素材の優しさ」と「Coolな佇まい」を選ばれたその審美眼、さすがです。

そして何より、今回は眼鏡選び以上に、Simonton様との会話がとても楽しいひとときでした。私が身につけていたインディアンジュエリーにふと目を留められ、「それはアリゾナのもの？」と一言。驚いてお話を伺うと、以前アリゾナにお住まいだったことがあるそうなんです！

以前はイスタンブールでもお仕事もされていて現在はシカゴにお住まいというグローバルなSimonton様とのさまざまなお話。とても素敵時間をありがとうございます！

Introducing Ms. Simonton, who visited us from Chicago and purchased this frame at our Ginza store. He stopped by our shop during his journey through Kyoto, Kanazawa, and Naoshima—places where Japanese art and traditional culture truly come alive.

Ms. Simonton is a true eyewear enthusiast. After carefully browsing through our entire collection and giving it much thoughtful consideration, the pair he ultimately chose was from UNSUIKYO, a brand born in Hong Kong and crafted in Japan.

As the brand name suggests, it is inspired by the natural beauty of Japan’s Shiratani Unsuikyo ravine. The model he chose, the [M.ETERNAL_BZ], luxuriously combines natural stone (Nepheline Syenite) with wood (Northern Red Oak). The unique texture created by the coexistence of the cool, solid feel of the stone and the warmth of the wood was an amazing match for Ms. Simonton’s calm and composed demeanor. The fact that it comes with clip-on sunglasses—perfect for protecting his eyes fashionably during his sunny travels—was also a deciding factor.

Actually, there were some formidable "rivals" before arriving at this decision. The round frame from Absolute Vintage made of natural buffalo horn, and the Ffin Eyewear "MOD" model from Wales which he picked up first, were both strong contenders. The "MOD" frame, with its 60s British Mod culture background, suited Mr. Simonton’s style wonderfully. It was a high-level dilemma where any choice would have been correct, but his aesthetic eye in ultimately selecting the "natural gentleness" and "cool presence" of the UNSUIKYO frame was truly impressive.

Above all, more than just the process of choosing glasses, I thoroughly enjoyed our conversation. He happened to notice the Indian jewelry I was wearing and asked, "Is that from Arizona?" I was surprised to learn that he used to live in Arizona!

From his work in Istanbul to his current life in Chicago, hearing about Ms. Simonton’s global experiences and sharing various stories was a wonderful experience. Thank you for such a lovely time!
